My Rating System

Many of you are probably familiar with the rating systems of magazines such as Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. These kind of systems give you a guideline when you are picking out something new. My system will work the same way, except with one difference, Price. I rate wines by how good they are, not the price tag. I will however tell you if I feel if it is a good value for the money or not.

Here is my system:

100-95: Almost perfect wines. The Flavors, acidity, and tannins should all be in balance.

94-90: Great wines. Most aspects should still be in balance, however lacking something.

89-85: Good table wines. Make for a good table wine and easily enjoyed by itself.

 84-80: Decent wines, nothing special.

79 and Below: Sub-par wines, not worth the money.

As an example:

Robert Mondavi Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2008: 95 points
Benziger Family Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 2007: 93 points
Bogle Phantom: 89 Points
Tamas Double Decker Red: 84 Points
Barefoot Anything: 60 points

When I do a proper rating I will have full descriptions of the wines with tasting notes, food pairings, etc. I did not do that with the above because I have not had them in a while and my memory of them is weak, however   they are fairly well known wines, so you should get the idea of how I rate.

I hope you all will enjoy reading! I know I will enjoy writing about this! Please comment as much as you like, this is intended to be a learning experience for both me and you!
